For the love of dog...
Dogster is a web site that was launched within the last year and is a "virtual dog park". There are over 70,000 dogs registered and it keeps growing. And for those 'other people' there is a sister site called Catster. I can't wait to get our dog and participate in all the fun!

No, it's YOUR turn to walk the dog!

Well after about 4 years of talking about getting a dog and actually visiting a shelter a couple of years ago, we are just about taking the plunge.

We passed our final interview with a very nice woman from the Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue of Colorado last night. Well, the funny thing it is not like it is that tough to "pass". I think they just want to meet you and make sure you are not some freak and live in a hole.

So now we sit back and wait for a phone call. Once they have a Golden that fits our profile (2-3 years old), they call and schedule a time to meet the dog. The real kicker will be if my allergies will react or not. So I am keeping my fingers crossed!

On another note, for those following my new bike story, the frame is in and is currently being built at the shop. Ufortunately there are none in my size available in the color I wanted. So I am getting this one.

While St. Patrick's is gone for another year, the need to get home after a long night has not. This Swiss site will test your abilities to get a plastered guy as far as he can walk without tipping over. On the off chance that you can't read the instructions in German, you just use your mouse to try to tug the drunk in the direction that will keep him walking as straight as possible.

A cowgirl, from Texas, walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud. She sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When she finishes them, she comes back to the bar and orders three more. The bartender approaches and tells the cowgirl, "You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time." The cowgirl replies, "Well, you see, I have two sisters. One is in Australia, the other is in Dublin. When we all left our home in Texas, we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for each of my sisters and one for myself." The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The cowgirl becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. She orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.

One day, she comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When she comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss." The cowgirl looks quite puzzled for a moment, then light dawns in her eyes and she laughs. "Oh, no, everybody's just fine," she explains, "It's just that my husband and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking."Hasn't affected my sisters though".

Bypass Compulsory Web Registration

Check out this web site that let's you bypass compulsory web registration. It is called BugMeNot. Whenever you get to a web site that requires a login etc. to view something, go to this site and put the URL in. It should come back with a valid username & password. And, if you use Mozilla Firefox, there is an extension that you can add and then when you right click on the username field and select BugMeNot, whammo, it populates the fields for you with sign-in information that works!

On Saturday we went snowshoeing by Rabbit Ears Pass (40d 23'08" N 106d 40'52"W) and our destination was a Radio Relay Station about 3 miles in (40d 22'3"N 106d 41'2"W). I gave the coordinates for those of you geeky enough (like me) to plot them on your GPS. The weather was a a little colder and cloudy (as you can see by the picture). But when the sun did peek out, it was just incredible! The views from up above were pretty clear, really nice shot of Rabbit Ears. The snow was soft and powdery. This is an excellent place to telemark, as we could tell with some fresh tracks that were there. Maybe next year we will be able to venture into that sport. After we made our way to the Radio Relay Station, we had lunch, took some pictures and headed through the trees and bushwacked to the trail that connects the 2 trailheads. Much more fun than following the same trail back. We ended up going about 4.7 to 5 miles (hard to tell since we lost satellite in the trees). Total time snowshoeing was just over 2 hours. Great trail and look forward to going back to that area again soon. There is a longer route (that 3 of us were not up for) that takes you to Walton Peak. Maybe next time.....

The drive back to Denver was good until the typical slowing heading into Georgetown and through Idaho Springs. Even with the traffic we were still home in just under 3 hours.

Oh, on the drive up (at night) we encountered a close call with some deer crossing the road. The really bad places were from Kremmling up to Muddy Creek Pass. We saw a car flash their lights as we approached a hill and sure enough at the top in the opposite lane there was a deer laying on it's side with it's legs still moving. I have seen road kill on the side of the road, but nothing like this. So on the way back to Denver we you could see all the deer carcasses being eaten by the birds on the side of the road. We stopped counting after 15!
 

I was in Steamboat Springs with Kim, Diane & Keith. We had a great time on the mountain enjoying the beautiful weather! It was sunny & clear blue skis on Thursday & Friday. A little too warm to keep the snow, but the conditions were actually very good. I decided to snowboard since I like the sport and am bored with alpine skiing. This was my 7th & 8th time riding and after a few turns I was back on track again! It has been almost 2 years since I have been on a snowboard, so I was surprised to see how quickly it all came back. I am definitely getting better at my turns, and trying to go a little faster, but a couple of jammed shoulders kept my speed down. Nothing that a couple of soaks in the hot tub didn't help.

We ate at Cugino's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant and it was very good! Great atmosphere! Other than buying a new pair of Keen Newport H2 sandals we did not have that much excitement. But we did go snowshoeing on Saturday and that will be the next post.....

A few of you know that I have been looking for a new bike to race on this year. I came across this one and thought that maybe just cruising this year would be better.

Leave it to the Italians for excellent marketing. I usually do not buy things just because I see an advertisement, but I bet this helmet will make me faster.

Check out the latest in clothing material. Some active-wear designers now weave antimicrobial bamboo into fabrics that mimic silk, cashmere, fleece & cotton. This is less expensive and more environmentally friendly than luxury textiles. Patagonia is actually looking into usig bamboo. I think this is a cool idea and another way to look at utilizing green materials.

....it may be a good idea that I actually know your full name and remember who you are!

So I get this phone call today from a Human Resource person for Boulder Medical Center. She told me that she is about to offer a job & is now checking his references. I told her I never heard of this guy. She said that we worked together for 5 years. I asked with what company? She said Cendant. I told her that I have worked for my current company for over 5 years and have never heard of this guy. I checked with our human resources department and I was told he is not in the directory for our division.

So now I am baffled, who is this guy and why am I being used as his reference? We have a laugh about it within our cube farm and then it fades away.

Then, this afternoon I get a call.....(it goes something like this)

caller: Hey, long time no talk.
me: Who is this?
caller: this is -insert full name here-, -pause- I guess you don't remember me.
me: You are right, who are you?
caller: We were neighbors about 5 years ago.
me: -pause- -insert first name here-, yes I remember now. You had never told me your last name. When was the last time we saw each other?
caller: probably 4 years ago.
me: So, -insert first name here-, do you think you may want to update your references?
caller: yep, probably a good idea.
me: well... sorry about that, but how do you expect me to give a reference about someone that I have not spoken to in over 4 years and I never knew your last name and I had never worked with you?!
caller: I guess you're right.
me: ok, bye....
